If you are like me and have not been home in a longer time than you should have and suddenly you get the edge to stop everything you are doing to get to where you will do nothing and receive so much more… then you must be as excited as I am to go home. I have not been home in 2 years, and when I called my mom to announce my premature plans to come home, for a moment I felt like the prodigal son… or daughter 🙂
Like the father in the parable of the prodigal son, my mom started making arrangements and plans of what to do and when. Her excitement made me even more excited. You see I finally get it… the story was never about the sinner who sinned against his father, the real story is about the unconditional love of a parent. No matter where we go and what we do when we are there, we can always come back home to restore our childhood nature.
Now there are many role players in this story, if you go to the book of Luke 15, the bible does talk about the reaction of the older brother who became rebellious and the Pharisee who saw himself too good to be celebrating with sinners. In your own life story which role are you playing? Are you the reason someone will not be going home or are you someone who will not be going home for some reason?
Either way, I hope when you read this story again (Luke 15), you see what I see… the heavenly father waiting at your earthly home to restore you. And if you have not been home in a while, I hope you are inspired take a mini short left home this Xmas.
In a couple of days, I will be trading off my adulthood status together with my “refugee” status but I would not have it any other way…
Off we go to TRANSKEI!
