John 21: 15- 19 After Jesus had revealed himself to his disciples and eaten breakfast with them,
he said to Simon Peter,
“Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”
Simon Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.”
He then said to Simon Peter a second time,
“Simon, son of John, do you love me?”
Simon Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”
He said to him the third time,
“Simon, son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time,
“Do you love me?” and he said to him,
“Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.”
Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.
Amen, amen, I say to you, when you were younger,
you used to dress yourself and go where you wanted;
but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands,
and someone else will dress you
and lead you where you do not want to go.”
He said this signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God.
And when he had said this, he said to him, “Follow me.” This is how Simon Peter transformed and regained his purpose.
What will it take for you and I to be transformed and regain our God given purpose?
I am troubled by purpose and never satisfied because I know I need to walk into something bigger than myself.
The Lord chose Peter to be the rock to which he would build his church. It took years before this rock was used to build the church, so many things had happened in Peter’s life. He had doubts about himself, he did not think he was good enough… He even back-slided and went back to being a fisherman but the Lord did not give up on him. We cannot let people’s condemnation nor our own self condemnation keep us down. Our experiences are preparing us and building character, because God wants us to be better, to be better people. He is preparing us to be selfless and look after His sheep, feed His sheep.
But do you ever wonder if you really must go through everything you go through? When does it become clear why we go through what we go through, what purpose it will serve? I have many question and fewer answers. Do you think Simon Peter went through life wondering when everything would make sense or he just lived the best way he knew and hoped to one day make sense of it?
I would like to ponder some more and learn about how Peter came into purpose. Please share how you view the scripture. Would love to learn from you.
Be blessed
